Why You Should Add San Juan to your Round the World Trip Itinerary
When travelers plan round the world trips, adding destinations in the Caribbean usually aren’t high on the list. They can be expensive and difficult to get to, and they usually aren’t the epitome of the indie travel experience, which is what many RTW travelers are looking for. When most people think Caribbean islands, they think all inclusive resorts and cruise ships.
But Puerto Rico is different. If you are planning an extended trip around the world, you may consider adding San Juan to your RTW itinerary. Puerto Rico is different from many other islands in the region. They shy away from all inclusive resorts as they encourage travelers to get out and see the rest of the island. Even in a large city like San Juan, the big hotels don’t try to keep their patrons locked inside the doors spending money only on their services.
Getting out and exploring Old San Juan is a great way to experience the city. If you are a foodie, then you’ll be extremely pleased with the food options available in San Juan. There are some top notch restaurants all around the city, in the touristy areas of Old San Juan and fanning out from there.
One of the best parts of traveling in Puerto Rico is the safety. There are numerous other islands in the vicinity where it’s not safe to rent a car and explore. But in Puerto Rico, it’s perfectly safe to rent a car while you’re in San Juan and explore the rest of the island from there. This will give you the opportunity to get away from the tourists and see more of what Puerto Rico has to offer. If you’re into surfing, hiking, fishing, and lounging on the beach, you can do all of that in Puerto Rico and then some. So before you write off adding a place like San Juan to your RTW trip, check out what it has to offer. You may be surprised.
