Resorts in Haiti
Unfortunately Haiti has taken a severe hurricane hit in September 2008 which led to a lot of resorts and hotels having to rebuild their accommodations. There are still enough places to spend a vacation though, but always double check the shape the hotel is in. The majority of un-affected resorts are located near cities rather than on the coast.
Tourist season
Being located right on the hurricane belt, Haiti is often hit by sever hurricanes, which means some hotels and resorts often close down for renovations between June and October (the hurricane season).
The high season starts in December and ends in April, with the highest prices being around Christmas and New Year’s. The low season starts in May and ends in November. In May and November you can still find some good discounted offers if you want to avoid the high prices, but try to stay away from the hurricane season.
Worth trying
El Rancho Resort
The 5-star resort is located in the hills of Petion-Ville, overlooking Port-au-Prince. The best part of the stay here is that you’ll be staying in a luxury estate rater than a hotel, which makes it perfect for pretty much anything, including romantic escapes. There are 82 rooms and 5 suites, all with AC, internet, TV, phone and offering lovely views. Within the resort you can find a restaurant, a bar, a pool, a fitness center and a casino. During the high season the rates vary between US$138 per night for a standard room, US$156 per night for a superior room and US$193 for a deluxe room. The rates include the taxes and American breakfast.
Hotel Montana
Hotel Montana is a 5-star hotel located away from the hustle and bustle of Petionville and at only 10 min walk from the boutiques and restaurants. It offers 120 rooms all with AC, TV and Internet. During the high season the rate is US$138 per superior room. Discounts are available during the shoulder season (May and November).
Cormier Plage
It is the only hotel located on the beach on the north coast. It’s small – 34 rooms – but offers lovely rooms equipped with AC, wi-fi and great views. You can also eat here some of the best food on the island. It is a great place to spend your wedding anniversary or honeymoon. The price is US$75 per night, average, year round.
