Flights to St. Maarten
St. Maarten is the second largest hub in the Caribbean after Puerto Rico. This means it’s quite easy to find cheap tickets to this island.
Airports and airlines
The main airport on St. Maarten is Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM), which handles almost all air traffic for the island, including the one for the French half, St. Martin.
If you depart from the US, there are a lot of airlines which fly directly into St. Maarten. American Airlines offers the most frequent flights and the cheapest airfare. They fly directly from New York, Miami and San Juan but you can also book your flight from any other major US city. US Airways flies directly from Philadelphia and Charlotte and also offers connecting flights from most of the major cities in US. United Airlines flies directly from Chicago, while Continental flies from Newark. Delta flies directly from Atlanta.
If you depart from Canada, Air Transat flies directly into St. Maarten from Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Halifax, while Air Canada flies directly from Toronto.
It’s equally easy to find directly flights from Europe as well. KLM and Air Holland fly directly from Amsterdam. Air France offers direct flights from Paris.
Several local carriers also offer flights into St. Maarten.
Tips to get a cheap ticket to St. Maarten
If you want to come during the peak and high seasons –Christmas until end of March- you need to book well in advance, since the prices keep climbing. If you want to avoid the peak fares, you can book your flight either in early December or early April.
Another good idea is to avoid the weekends and fly mid-week (Tuesday and Wednesday), especially if you come on short notice.
