Caribbean Weddings – Passport to the Caribbean
Passport to the Caribbean is a new collaboration between Condé Nast’s Brides, Modern Bride, Brides.com and the Caribbean Tourism Development Company, designed to educate engaged and newlywed couples on the changing bridal market and new travel restrictions to the Caribbean (like the whole passport deal). If you’re planning a Caribbean wedding, this may offer you some useful information.
This program offers a “micro site” at Brides.com/passport, with information on Caribbean destination weddings, passport and marriage requirements and even contests. Visit quickly, the site will only be live until June 15th of this year.
Contests
Capital Wedding: This contest will run during “Caribbean Week” and will be held in Washington, DC this year. The reason for the location is because the Caribbean Ministers of Tourism wanted the passport issue to be addressed by politicians. A contest on the website will determine a bride and groom who will win a wedding held in DC and a honeymoon to either St. Lucia or the Bahamas. Nice, weddings are ridiculously expensive.
Sparkle in the Sand Engagement Contest: The Sparkle in the Sand Engagement Contest will take place over the summer during a Caribbean Tourism Organization hosted “Caribbean Beach Fun Volleyball Tournament.” You can enter this contest at the Brides.com site as well. This contest offers couples the chance to get engaged at the beach and win a romantic trip to a Caribbean destination.
The site offers a two sentence overview of each island found in the Caribbean. It isn’t nearly enough information for you to base you decision on, but it will give you an idea. You can find more information on each island here at the Caribbean Logue.
Every traveler from the United States is now required to have a passport to visit any island in the Caribbean, with the exception of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition to passport information, the site offers contact information to get wedding information for each island.
Happy planning!
